Shoes

Shoes – Everyone wears them, the pillows on your feet.  Shoes aren’t supposed to be how we have/wear them.  They should be thin, no heel lift (aka no change in height from your toe to heel) and very flexible/breathe-able).  You’re probably doubting this.  But it’s true- your foot should have the strength to hold itself up I mean goodness sake, it’s holding you up isn’t it!? So let it be strong and free!  Be barefoot at home, try not to wear high heels too often, try not to scrunch your toes in little shoes.

Imagine if your hands were in stiff gloves all day and could only move at the knuckle (base of your finger) or wrist. Your muscles would atrophy (get smaller/weaker, etc), your hands would get really weak/skinny – how they would if you have ever work a cast for even 3 weeks.  It prevents your smaller muscles from working, which isn’t a good thing, we want them to be very strong.  Just like a high rise or very tall tree – it needs good strong roots. Our feet have 33 joints, (hands 29 joints) – if you don’t use them – you lose them.  Just like your brains and other muscles in your body!!

Many people get injured because we sit all day and go out and run or have a tough lifting workout (morning work out folks count too) and our poor little feet what have been asleep and deprived of blood all day and are suddenly trying to work overtime because they barely work regularly and it just goes up the chain and we hurt ourselves!!!

So next time you’re at home on the couch take your socks off and wiggle your toes a little bit, stand up and do some calf raises to get the blood flowing to your feet, take control of your feet back!!

Yes, these are all my feet.

P.s. Bunions aren’t hereditary – it’s YO shoes.
