Now with 2019 here everyone and their mom is going to be heading to the gym – don’t get me wrong – this is wonderful, I wish people did this always!! America would be in a way healthier place. I just want to provide some professional advice – I know you want to suddenly come everyday, which is great but a lot of times this is what makes people burn out, or quickly lose motivation. You think suddenly coming so much I should get fast results – false. Coming consistently 3-4 days for 8 weeks – YES, that will get you results. Will they magically stay once you stop coming to the gym?? NO – we all wish. Hell I wish. I’d be doing a lot more couch sitting then.
But let’s be real – that’s not the case. Being consistent is so key it’s unreal. But this goes with anything in life, you have to consistently work to do your job. You can’t just show up 2 days here and there whenever you want. You have to consistently sleep well to feel good, eat well, to live healthy, drink water – you truly have to be consistent at anything in life to get shit done and do well.
We all almost consistently went to school, consistently played sports?? Being a previous collegiate athlete I didn’t get to show up whenever I felt like it and run as fast as I wanted – you have to try for things in life you want. I know today there’s a lot of things we want and we want them this instant – pun intended – but REAL doesn’t happen like that. REAL things take blood, sweat, tears, motivation, some periods of lack of motivation but finding the fight to power through for the better days, planning, consistency, goal setting and so much more!
Everyday you brush your teeth, go to work, shower, eat, drink, sleep and now WORKOUT. Make it a routine. Make it something in your everyday – therefore it becomes habit like everything else. You probably brush your teeth, check your email without even really thinking about it. Make the gym the same. Be present when you’re there and soon it will be habit. Pack your gym clothes the night before. Try not to give yourself a choice.
Set out a plan – set realistic goals (1-2lb down week), Mind-full eating, hitting the gym 3-4 days a week, be human, be realistic – don’t set yourself up to not get what you’re looking to achieve. We all go through hard times, even myself and on those days I make myself walk in the gym and move for 30 minutes. Lastly, intervals are where it’s at – get your heart rate up and back down, steady state cardio/workouts doesn’t get you as far!
With love – go get em. You’re stronger than you think.
