Day in a life of a personal trainer

There’s so many negative thoughts about personal trainers/the lifestyle, etc.  Well I’m here to tell you what’s up. We are not all meat head, protein shake lovers.  I work 40 hours a week and don’t get to take a break or look at my phone whenever I’d like during that time…. must be nice!!

I had to work very hard to get to 40 hours a week, it wasn’t just handed to me. This makes the 40 hours that much better, knowing you worked for it! I get up at 5:10ish… on a good day (Sometimes 5:20), work 4-6 hours in the morning, go home for anywhere from 2-5 hours then go back to work 4-ish to 8:30pm almost every day.  Usually I’m at work 6am-8:30pm about once a week. These days aren’t easy.  Maybe you could call me wimpy but a couch is so nice sometimes!!!

There’s also the part of I’m not JUST working 40 hours a week… I have to write all my clients workouts! None of my clients have the same exact program just like they all have different anatomy, goals, bodies, etc.  This takes brain power. I have to REALLY like a workout to put someone through it my roommate knows this very well!  I’m so picky.  Not only with that – but your form doing it! I don’t just tell you what to do and turn away. I watch your movement, correct when I need to – sounds weird yeah? But I take that as part of my job. If you’re not doing something correct, you’re not getting the benefits.

My job is also amazing because I get to meet with and work with people from all over the world! China, UK, Peru, Australia, India, Italy just to make a few.  Because of this I learn so many things from my clients. Not only about them but about the world, culture and so much more. I could never imagine sitting at a computer all day barley speaking with people….

All in all, it’s not as easy of a job as some of you think, I have to work hard to work at all, I don’t get clients handed to me and I don’t make cookie cutter fitness programs. I do this because I care about people, I don’t think you deserve that low back pain, I think you deserve the energy level you work(out) for, the sound sleep you long for, the long walk or run with no pain you’ve dreamed of, feeling good about YOURSELF, not just because you’re looking better but because you’re stronger and can kick ass!!  I do this because it’s the best job out there and it’s fun, even if I never know when I’ll sleep in again.
